The Oklahoma Libertarian Party (OKLP) will convene its biennial convention at 9am on Saturday, April 10, 2010. The morning session is open to the general public and will consist of several noted speakers, a question and answer session, and time for discussion. Following the morning session, a barbecue lunch (included in the cost of registration) will be served. The afternoon session is only open to OKLP members and will handle the business requirements of the party. Please check the
oklp.org website at the beginning of March for a full agenda.

This year, the convention will be held at the Highland Hall in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Registration is $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Students who register in advance are eligible for a discounted rate of $20. Checks for should be made out to the Libertarian Party of Oklahoma and sent to PO Box 14042, Tulsa, OK 74159-1042.

Confirmed speakers for the event include National Libertarian Party Chairman William Redpath, Oklahoma State Representative and gubernatorial candidate Randy Brogdon (R-Tulsa), and State Representative Eric Proctor (D-Tulsa). Two candidates for U.S. Congress, OKLP Vice-Chair Clark Duffe (I) in District 5, and R.J. Harris (R) in District 4, are also slated to speak briefly.
State Representative Charles Key (R -Bethany) has been invited to give a short talk, but his attendance is not confirmed at this time.

"Our conventions are more than just a time to take care of those dreary business details and to strategize for the coming year. They're a great opportunity for anyone interested in the Libertarian Party to meet and talk with current members," said Angelia O'Dell, OKLP Chair. "Our discussions are bright and spirited, and the auction - even if you don't bid on any of the sometimes 'unusual' offerings - is always great fun to watch."

In the business session, OKLP members will elect Executive Council officers for the upcoming two year term, choose delegates to the National Libertarian Party convention in St. Louis in May 2010, vote on proposed by-law changes, and discuss finances and the budget. After the convention adjourns, the new Executive Council will gather for a short meeting.

"It's not too late to join the OKLP and be a part of both sessions," stated Larry Brittain, OKLP Treasurer. "Right now there are no annual dues for membership. Just contact us and we'll get you on the rolls."

Hope this story is updated soon to tell who the candidates for party officers are. Sources indicate that Angelia O'Dell, the incumbent Chair, and myself, the founding Chair, are the only announced candidates for any of the offices. (Continued…)
